Recently we introduced a new feature in [**GJ Bulk Price Editor**](https://apps.shopify.com/bulk-price-editor-3) to apply your price rules to products using **CSV**.
Today we are gonna take a look at and check out some examples what is possible to achieve, how to do it and how to check it beforehand.

Here, as always, we assume you are familiar with the interface and that you know how to create a new task.

Prerequisites: Pro Advanced Plan is needed.

### CSV, intro 

The CSV functionality can be found in "Select products to edit" block:

There are two possible options to do next since everything else is set up:

1. Click "Create CSV from products" if you don't have your products' CSV already from some other source.
2. You already have a CSV file of your products, with any fields names.

So the CSV might look as follows (from preview):

It is an example of a file generated by our app from loaded products. In the case of your own CSV fields names might differ.
You may have "name" instead of "title" for example, but anyway it can be justified.
If you went by first route and generated a file, all mappings (which field is for what) will be
done automatically, you just edit prices in the file and add it.

### Importing and mapping CSV file

To import your CSV file that you got at the previous step just drag & drop it into the "Add file" field or click it and select.
No rocket science. It will be parsed immediately and you will see the following picture:

Here in the first row with "product_id" and "Product Id" you choose to use the CSV's field named `product_id` to be used
as a field to match your products with the records in the CSV file. Product Id has a format 
like "gid://shopify/Product/7507708777712" and originally it is a format used by Shopify and it is an id that Shopify uses
for referencing products. 

Alternatively you can reference products by their titles. For this, 
please select the columns name that refers to the title in the csv file, for example `title`,
and select "Product Title" in second field:

Make sure you are using the exact names, otherwise it would be quite tricky to 
match products between the CSV file and the products in your shop.

If everything's right at this step you will be able to see a not 
empty list of products in the "Matched products" block.
I need to emphasize that the products in this block are the products which reflect
the CSV file — if you don't want some product to be updated, please remove it 
from CSV OR click "X" sign in the right-top corner of the product cell in the list.
If you don't see a product, most probably it's not in the CSV file, or it has the wrong id or title, 
(depending on whether you use have chosen "Product Id" or "Title" in the "as" field).

### Choosing price and/or compare-at-price to modify

In this step we are selecting the **price** and/or **compare-at-price** as *base* to our 
next action (apply price rules or launch the task right away).

Let's say, you selected `price` field in CSV as **Price** and `compare_at_price` field as **compare-at-price**.

In this scenario the matched products will be updated to have this 
exact **price** and **compare-at-price** as specified in the CSV file, for example:

But it's not the end!

You can use other price rules on top of it. Let's say "adjust by X%", 
so the next price will be the price from CSV file plus X%.

Again, all planned changes you can evaluate by products in the "Matched products" block as in the last screenshot.

The most powerful tool, though a bit cumbersome at first glance.

How to use CSV in GJ Bulk Price Editor


Usually there are different ways of changing the price in Shopify
with [**GJ Bulk Price Editor**](https://apps.shopify.com/bulk-price-editor-3).
In brief, you can find a summary in the header, but if you need more information, you're welcome to explore further.

Before we begin, we'll touch upon the various price types, 
which include two: the regular **price** and the **compare-at-price**.
Regular **price** is just a price that your customer pays for the 
product and **compare-at-price** is the price your customer sees crossed — 
if they are both used it helps the customer to see, that the product is
at sale and they'd better buy it now while it's cheap.
Also please note that **compare-at-price** is shown in the product page only 
if it's higher than regular *price*, otherwise it's just doesn't make sense.
In the context of these types of prices optional *cost-per-item* might be mentioned — it
is the price that you as a merchant pay for the product itself and you can include
any costs here, generally for convenience to do more simple math of your profits.
Your prospects don't see it.
Here at the screen is how these types of prices are set:

Let's now see the actual ways to change the prices.


### Change to

Straightforward change the price for the specific one.


### Adjust by amount

Increase or decrease the price by some amount. Say, you have a product priced **$100**, then this 
action will make it **$110**.
If you change multiple products (as you normally do) and you have a product priced **$200** alognside with **$100**,
then the new ones will be **$110** and **$210**. Just simple as that.


### Adjust by %

Increase or decrease the price in Shopify by percent. Let's say, you have a product priced **$200**, then this 
action will make it **$220** ($200 + 10% ($20) = $220).
It's is also quite straightforward.

### Adjust by amount against Compare price

It is a more interesting one, here you take a *compare price* as a basis and 
add/subtract amount to/from it and use the result as new *price*.
Say, you have *compare-at-price* **$200** and some regular price.
Then adjusting (*decrease*) the price by 10 against *compare-at-price* 
(as shown on the screenshot) will make the *price* **$190**.
The original price value doesn't matter here.

Usually we use *decrease* adjustment here as it makes sense for the
*price* to be lower than *compare-at-price*.



### Adjust by % against Compare price

It is just as the one above. You take a *compare price* as a basis and 
add/subtract percent value to/from it and use the result as new *price*.
For example, you have *compare-at-price* **$200**.
Then adjusting (*decrease*) the price by **10%** against *compare-at-price* 
(as shown on the screenshot) will make the price **$180** as **10%** difference is **$20** here.
The original price value doesn't matter here.

Again, it makes sense to use *decrease* adjustment here as
*price* usually is lower than *compare-at-price*.


### Set to Compare-at-price

Typically it is the case when you want to revert a sale.
Let's say you have a sale and sell something with original price of **$120**
with a discount of **$21** for **$99** - as shown here:

Then when you want to make it back and sell the product for the original
price of **$120**, you do *set to compare at price* for you price.


### Set based on cost per item

This is nice one. As we discussed before, you may set *cost per item* 
for a product — say the cost you pay to get the original product
at your warehouse. Then to keep your math simple, you come up with a margin for your product and
you set it here. Say you pay **$500** per a product for your supplier.
You know that typical margin for this kind of product is **10%**.
Now you use *set based on cost per item* and all your products in this task will have
price **10%** higher than its cost-per-item.
The **$500** product in the example will have price **$550**.

### Note about Compare-at-price

All mentioned above is the same for *compare-at-price*.
It has small name differences like *set to price* that is
used to set *compare-at-price* to the *price*, but the idea remains the same.

The one thing to mention is that for *compare-at-price* you can check
*Apply changes only if Compare-At-Price is set initially* and it will
apply the changes to *compare-at-price* only if it is set, i.e. it is not $0.

Say, you have **Product 1** with price **$10** and **$20** compare-at-price and 
**Product 2** with price **$10** and **$0** compare-at-price (no compare-at-price really).
Using this toggle while increasing the *compare-at-price* by **$10** (as shown on the screen)
will change the *compare-at-price* only for the **Product 1** making it **$30**.

The ways to change products prices with GJ Bulk Price Editor in Shopify


[**GJ Bulk Price Editor**](https://apps.shopify.com/bulk-price-editor-3) is a powerful tool to edit prices of your products in your Shopify store. 
Let's see how do it!

We assume are already familiar with the interface itself and you know how to create a new task 
(if you don't, it's just "Create new task" button in the very first screen of "Create" button above the task table).


### All products

So, in order to select **all products** of your Shopify store, you just do *all* here — it is selected by default:

In this scenario all products from *Products* (in menu among other items like *Home*/*Orders*/*Customers*) are considered.


### By collection

But what if you need to edit products only in **specific collection**? It is straightforward as well!
Here we select collection called "Home page" — this is a default collection that you have when first register in Shopify. Maybe you still have it.

### By title

Sure, we discussed quite general cases, let's check more specific ones.
[**GJ Bulk Price Editor**](https://apps.shopify.com/bulk-price-editor-3) can select products **by titles** that **contain** specific words (case insensetive). 
Here we see that products which have "pro" in their title were filtered. 
It doesn't matter where in the title it is located, either in fron, middle or the end, it will be filtered anyway.
Apart from **contains**, **does not contain**, **is** are available.

### By tags

It is a more sophisticated way to select products, but it's more convenient if you orginize your Shopify store
using **tags**.
First of all you need to have your products tagged, you can do it in the product page:

After it just select **tags** in [**GJ Bulk Price Editor**](https://apps.shopify.com/bulk-price-editor-3), 
then specify tags you need, like *chair* and *tag1* in this scenario, 
and see the products with the tags that will be processed.
Please take a note, that (basically as with any other updating) if you added tag right now, 
you have to sync the product cache by pressing "Refresh" button below the products list.

### Using CSV

Well, it is not as easy as "All products", but let's figure it out!
First of all you need to have the CSV file that you will use for updating the prices of your products in Shopify.
It can be generated automaticaly clicking "Create CSV file from products" button — after 
you click it, **file.csv** is downloaded.
You can edit it as you want (say, set needed prices, delete products that you don't want to modify) 
and use it to **apply** it to your products in the store.

Please note that default behaviour — is just to apply prices from the CSV file to specified 
products (all prices blocks will switch into *don't change*).
But you can also make price modifications (like *adjust by amount*) applied to the prices specified in CSV!
Say use prices from CSV file, but also increase it by some amount.

Note: if you are using csv file not generated by the app, you can still use it, 
but then you need to specify relevant fields in csv, like *price* for Price as it's already in the screenshot.
